Carlo Hauner

Carlo Hauner

Carlo Hauner, Brescia of Bohemian origin, arrives for the first time to the Aeolian Islands in 1963 and fell in love with the land, in the 70s ends up moving to Salina. Here comes the second stroke of lightning, the Malvasia grape old (there is evidence of its presence in the area since the first century BC), sweet and fragrant that farmers Aeolian gather in mid-September, when it reached perfect ripeness, and that for two weeks left to dry in the sun, refining a technique remained almost unchanged over the centuries. The result is that Dumas defined as the most outstanding wine he had tasted in his life. After careful observation of the local wine tradition, integrated with the study of ancient and modern texts, Hauner unable to retrieve a twenty acres of land and turn them into the vineyard. There, on the terraces retrieved from the local agricultural tradition, began producing its Malvasia, with some innovations: let the grapes wither on the vine and directly experiences a cooling technique during fermentation. Little touches that make his wines end up on the tables of the best restaurants around the world. Born in the 80s a new winery and new wine, the White Salina, the Salina Red and Antonello. After the death of Carlo Hauner, the company was taken over by his son (pictured), which carries the name and philosophy: to produce a wine with genuine and complex, but, above all, terribly good.
